Calaveras County Man Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Homeowner, Stealing Tools

On November 11th, 2023, at about 1000 hours deputies were dispatched to the area of Ponderosa Road in Arnold, CA regarding a physical fight. Donovan Shinn, age 54 of Arnold, reported being attacked by the property owner, who offered him a place to stay on his property in exchange for cleaning it up. The property owner confronted Shinn about stolen tools, and a physical encounter ensued. After the altercation, the property owner found multiple stashes of stolen tools around the property that Shinn had taken from his house. Shinn claimed that all of the tools belonged to him, but the property owner identified his faded initials on the equipment.
Shinn was taken into custody and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of grand theft, burglary, and possession of burglary tools.
