On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of West Ninth Street and Warren Lane. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted the victim, a 16-year-old male, who was quickly transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of a single, non-life-threatening stab wound. The suspect, also a 16-year-old male, was detained at the scene by officers.
Officers investigating the incident learned the suspect and victim are friends and became involved in a heated argument inside of the suspect’s residence. The argument continued as the victim attempted to leave the residence, with the suspect chasing after the victim. The suspect caught up to the victim and used a folding knife with a blade approximately 4-inches in length to stab him one time in the back.
SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team (VCI) detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Based on their investigation, they do not believe the stabbing was gang motivated, nor was it school-related.
The 16-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Juvenile Hall for one count of 245(a)(1) PC, assault with a deadly weapon.
Due to both the suspect and victim being minors, neither of their names or additional identifying information will be released.
Santa Rosa Police Department case number 23-14801.
