Homicide Investigation Underway Following Fatal Shooting in San Bernardino

LOCATION: 7100 block of N. Barton Street, San Bernardino
SUSPECT(S): Michael Pasillas, 25-year-old San Bernardino Resident
VICTIM(S): Sergio Oscar Casteneda, 37-year-old Riverside Resident (Deceased) Confidential, 23-year-old Female
SUMMARY: On Thursday, November 16, 2023, at approximately 7:32 p.m., deputies from the Central Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to an assault with a weapon call in the 7100 block of N. Barton Street. Upon arrival, deputies found Sergio Casteneda unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Casteneda was pronounced deceased at the scene. A female victim, whose identity remains confidential, was also struck by gunfire and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, promptly arrived at the scene and took over the investigation. After diligent efforts, investigators identified 25-year-old Michael Pasillas as the suspect in this case. On November 20, 2023, with the valuable assistance of the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, Pasillas was located and taken into custody. He has since been arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center on charges of murder.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this case to come forward.
