Stanislaus County Man Arrested for Alleged Attempted Murder in Empire
A Stanislaus County man was recently arrested in connection with an alleged attempted murder in Empire.
According to a press release by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Stanislaus Regional 911 received a report late on the night of November 19 concerning an incident involving an adult female and her ex-boyfriend on the 600 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Empire. The initial report indicated that a shooting had occurred at the location.
Deputies responded to the location and found an adult male victim inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies provided medical assistance to the victim until fire and ambulance personnel arrived at the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim’s injuries were described as life-threatening.
In the preliminary stage of the investigation, law enforcement identified 33-year-old Ramiro Gonzalez Cordova of Modesto as the primary suspect in the shooting. Cordova had fled the scene in a Dodge Challenger prior to law enforcement’s arrival and, despite extensive efforts by multiple units, managed to temporarily elude law enforcement.
The Major Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation, with assistance from Crime Scene Investigators. Detectives eventually located Cordova in the city of Dublin. He was arrested on a warrant for attempted murder and transported back to Stanislaus County, where he is currently in custody with bail set at $250,000.
The gunshot victim remains in critical condition but is alert at this time, the Sheriff’s Office said. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
It was unclear at press time whether Cordova had retained an attorney.
