Man Taken Into Custody After Allegedly Evading Police in Stolen Car
A man was recently arrested in Merced County after allegedly leading police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.
According to a press release by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, a school resource deputy in the city of Atwater located a confirmed stolen vehicle near the intersection of Buhach Road and Juniper Avenue on the afternoon of Friday, December 1. The deputy initiated a vehicle stop, but the driver did not yield, leading to a brief vehicle pursuit.
The driver, identified as Izael Antonio Quintero-Valdez, 29, eventually fled from the vehicle. Additional deputies and the Atwater Police Department were called in to assist in locating Quintero-Valdez. He was soon found in the bed of a pickup truck and was taken into custody without further incident.
Quintero-Valdez was booked into the Merced County jail on suspicion of felony evading, receiving stolen property, obstructing law enforcement, and several other outstanding warrants issued in Merced County.
It was unclear at press time whether Quintero-Valdez had retained an attorney.
