With the Holiday Season rapidly approaching, con artists, street hustlers, and scam operators are crawling out of their holes to victimize unwary and open-hearted members of the public.
Evidence of that came on the morning of November 24th when an elderly individual walking along the street in the quiet community of Oak View was approached by 34- year-old Coventry, England resident Constantin Miclescu and 39-year-old Seattle, Washington resident Laura Stan who were working in concert to relieve their victim of cash. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Detective David Boynton, Miclescu and Stan attempted to “distract and confuse their elderly victim” so that Stan could “remove the victim’s wallet from his person” and steal several hundred dollars.
Their prospective victim may have been of advanced years, but he was no fool, promptly summoning law enforcement to the scene. Patrol deputies arrived with all due alacrity, made contact with Miclescu and Stan and “were able to recover and return the victim’s money” and take the two slick operators into custody. Both suspects were transported to Ventura County Jail, where they were booked on charges of conspiracy and robbery.
