Shasta County Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Grandmother
A Shasta County man was recently arrested after allegedly assaulting his grandmother, which led to stand-off with authorities.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement responded to a reported assault in Redding on the afternoon of Sunday, December 10. The incident occurred on the 8000 block of Shoreline Drive, where an elderly victim reported being assaulted by her grandson, identified as 24-year-old Joshua Holm.
Deputies arrived at the scene and contacted the victim at a neighbor’s residence, where they took a report of what had happened. Upon attempting to arrest Holm at the victim’s residence, he barricaded himself inside and armed himself with a knife, allegedly making specific threats to harm the deputies. In response, the Shasta County Crisis Response Team was called to the scene. Negotiators then worked to persuade Holm to peacefully exit the residence.
Meanwhile, law enforcement obtained an arrest warrant for Holm on charges related to assault, elder abuse, and threatening an officer with violence. Eventually, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was also called to the scene.
Holm eventually emerged from the residence in an agitated state, reportedly refusing to comply with commands and resisting arrest. Law enforcement deployed a Shasta County K-9 Deputy to subdue Holm, at which point they took him into custody without further incident.
Following his arrest, Holm was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Shasta County jail. His bail has been set at $100,000.
It was unclear at press time whether Holm had retained an attorney.
