“The Rialto Police Department is actively utilizing technology to enhance its efforts in pursuing criminals and ensuring public safety. One of many tools we incorporate into our patrol vehicles is the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System, which alerts officers to the presence of stolen vehicles equipped with LoJack GPS units.
While in the 2000 block of N. Riverside Avenue, Patrol officers were notified of a stolen vehicle nearby which was equipped with LoJack. Using the recovery system to pinpoint the vehicle’s location, officers located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop.
The driver and sole occupant, later identified as 31-year-old Anthony Stevens, resident of the City of Apple Valley, was taken into custody without incident and later booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC 496d(a) – possession of a stolen vehicle.
Before returning the vehicle to its rightful owner, officers located evidence inside, which led them to believe Stevens intended to steal additional vehicles if he had not been taken into custody before having the chance to do so. This success story underscores the vital role that collaboration between advanced technology and skilled police work plays in creating a safer environment for the community.”
