“In the early hours of January 12, 2024, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office successfully thwarted a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Country View Lane, Valley Springs, thanks to the pivotal role played by an attentive property owner and their remote video surveillance.

The incident, which could have escalated into a considerable property crime, was promptly interrupted when the property owner, vigilantly monitoring the location through a video surveillance system, alerted the Sheriff’s Office at approximately 1:30 AM. This immediate response highlights the value of surveillance technology in law enforcement and community safety.

Upon arrival, deputies quickly located and detained Kenneth Albert Jorgensen, a 35-year-old male from San Lorenzo, CA, who was within the fenced perimeter of the property. Mr. Jorgensen, who was on probation in Alameda County, was caught siphoning gasoline from vehicles and damaging the fence.

A further search led to the discovery of approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine and about 124 grams of amphetamine in Mr. Jorgensen’s possession. He was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Jail on multiple charges, including vandalism, possession of a controlled substance for sale, theft from a motor vehicle, trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of probation.

This incident highlights the crucial role of technology in crime prevention and law enforcement. The prompt alert from the surveillance system enabled the Sheriff’s Office to act rapidly, preventing further criminal activity. We commend the property owner for their proactive approach and encourage the community to consider similar surveillance measures as a deterrent to crime.”
