Husband of Missing Los Gatos Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

A Los Gatos man has reportedly been arrested as the primary suspect in the disappearance and alleged murder of his wife.

In a press release, the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department identified John Maxey Yeager, 56, as the primary suspect in the alleged murder of his wife, 40-year-old Yingying “Dawn” Yu. Police had been investigating Yu’s disappearance since January 8, when her employer had contacted them to report that they hadn’t seen her since before New Year’s Day.

As they began looking into Yu’s disappearance, investigators reportedly discovered evidence related to an alleged domestic violence incident on December 31, 2023, in which Yu had been identified as the victim. On January 11 of this year, Yeager was arrested in connection with that incident.

The investigation into Yu’s disappearance continued, and detectives soon uncovered evidence of foul play. On January 13, investigators traveled to a remote area of the Santa Cruz Mountains after learning that Yeager had traveled there earlier this year. In that area, investigators reportedly discovered possible human remains that they believe are those of Dawn Yu.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner is working to positively identify the remains, police said.

In the meantime, John Yeager remains in custody without bail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
