Shasta County Man Reportedly Caught with Loaded Weapon and Narcotics

“On Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 10:27 P.M., Officers with the Redding Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Nissan Altima in the area of Terrill Street and Veda Street for vehicle code violations. They contacted the driver, Justin Schmidt, 29 years of Redding who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located a .45 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, three loaded magazines and a box of .45 caliber ammunition. The handgun’s serial number was unreadable and appeared to have been painted over. Schmidt admitted to being a drug addict and has used methamphetamine for years.
Schmidt was booked for being an addict in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, concealed weapon in a vehicle, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with an unreadable serial number and driving without a license. Schmidt was booked into the Shasta County Jail for the listed charges.”
