Calaveras County Authorities Investigate Two Alleged Violent Incidents Involving Same People
“The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is reportedly investigating two separate alleged shootings involving two disputes between the same two people.
In a press release, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office identified a 36-year-old man as a suspect in connection with two alleged shooting and vandalism incidents on Friday, January 19, and Saturday, January 20, respectively.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 100 block of Main Street in West Point to investigate an alleged incident of vandalism at around 9 AM on January 20. The victim reported that they’d gotten into a confrontation with the suspect the night before, which ultimately escalated to a physical fight. Soon after the fight, the victim allegedly heard gunfire and saw the suspect leaving in his vehicle. When the victim went outside, they discovered that a vehicle in their driveway had sustained bullet damage, a broken windshield, and a flat tire.
The victim reported the incident the next morning, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 12:30 PM that same day, January 20, deputies received a call from the same location and responded to the area again. This time, the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to “a lower extremity.” The victim stated that they’d gotten into another confrontation with the same suspect, and that the suspect had responded by displaying a handgun and firing at the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim was taken to an out-of-area hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies then responded to another out-of-area hospital, where the suspect had just been admitted for treatment. The suspect reportedly claimed that the victim had stabbed him during their initial confrontation the night before.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details have been made available at this time.”
