Vallejo Man Charged with Murder After Collision Kills Pedestrian During Vehicle Pursuit

“On October 17, 2023, at approximately 2:27 P.M., a Vallejo Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving in the area of Sonoma Boulevard and Carolina Street.
Upon activating the police vehicle’s overhead emergency lights and siren, the suspect vehicle, a red Ford Fusion, failed to yield and took off at a high rate of speed. The Fusion sped westbound on Carolina Street, failed to stop for two stop signs, and ultimately crashed in the 300 block of Carolina Street. The Fusion collided with several parked cars at the south curb. The driver of the Fusion fled from the scene on foot. A firearm was located in the vehicle. The suspect vehicle traveled just over two city blocks from the point where he sped away from the officer until he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
A 76-year-old Vallejo resident was standing between two of the parked cars with which the Fusion collided. The collision pushed one of the cars into another, crushing the victim between them. Emergency Medical Services (E.M.S.) transported the victim to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division responded and took over the investigation. During the course of this investigation, the Vallejo Police Department Detectives identified Jovon Woodard, a 22-year-old Vallejo resident, as being the responsible suspect in this homicide. This case was presented to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Jovon Woodard.
On January 30, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service, with the assistance of the Vallejo Police Department Patrol Division, arrested Jovon Woodard without incident in the 400 block of Tennessee Street.
Jovon Woodard was subsequently booked into the Solano County Jail.”
