BRENTWOOD —Police arrested two suspects after a woman found her stolen car earlier this month. Officers responded to the 8800 block of Brentwood Boulevard, where both suspects were sitting inside her car.
The victim phoned the police on January 21 at approximately 5 p.m. She told a dispatcher that she was sure the car was hers, because of its distinctive damage. However, the car had license plates belonging to a different vehicle.
Responding officers detained 41-year-old Michael J. Van Brusselen, of Clayton. His companion Kelly Katrones, 58, of Pittsburg was also detained. Turns out the license plates on the stolen car belong to a vehicle that Katrones owns.
The stolen car was searched, and officers found a loaded shotgun and a BB gun. Shaved keys typically used to commit crimes and burglary tools were recovered as evidence against the suspects as well.
Van Brusselen and Katrones were placed under arrest for being in possession of the stolen car and the burglary tools. Van Brusselen has a prior conviction for second-degree burglary. Therefore, he faces additional charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Plus, he also had an outstanding warrant.
Van Brusselen remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility, where he is ineligible for release on bond. However, Katrones is no longer listed in the county jail roster.
