“At approximately 12:30 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call of a shooting on the 7300 block of Del Prado Court in South Sacramento. Upon their arrival, they discovered an adult male lying on the street. Deputies found he was unresponsive and had a gunshot wound in his upper torso. They began life-saving measures until the Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence. Through their investigation, detectives learned that the victim was involved in a physical altercation outside of a residence with the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Reinaldo Rivera. The fight escalated into a shooting when Rivera produced a firearm and shot the victim. Rivera was on active parole for PC 288(c)(1) [Lewd or lascivious act upon a child age 14 or 15] and several other controlling charges.
Homicide Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rivera, and Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau were able to locate and arrest him later that evening. Rivera was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for murder, where he remains ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 9, 2024.”
