FREMONT —Marvin Martinez-Velasquez, a 27-year-old resident of Fremont, is in custody and ineligible for release on bond. Martinez-Velasquez is suspected of committing a sexual assault on February 12th.

The attacker approached a woman who was walking alone at approximately 9:10 p.m. This happened near the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Eggers Drive. She was pulled to the ground and struck several times before the man sexually assaulted her.

Passersby in the vicinity intervened before the suspect could flee. In a prepared statement Fremont police said. “Community members became aware of what just happened and held the suspect.”
The passersby held Martinez-Velasquez down until police arrived at the scene. Officers placed Martinez-Velasquez under arrest at 10:30 p.m. He was taken to Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

Martinez-Velasquez was arrested on the following charges:
• Kidnapping with intent to rape
• Sexual penetration with a foreign object
• Assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily harm
• Battery with serious bodily injury

Last year, Martinez-Velasquez was arrested twice. He was arrested in July resulting in a conviction for reckless driving involving alcohol, and one year of probation. In August, he was arrested on suspicion of committing another assault.

The investigation of the sexual assault this month is ongoing, including the possibility of more victims. Anyone with information can contact Fremont police detective Ryan Blanchet at 510-790-6900 or rblanchet@fremont.gov.
