What began as a simple traffic stop reportedly led to the discovery of a narcotics sales operation and the arrests of two individuals in Shasta County.

According to a press release by the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force, the discovery of the operation began with an enforcement stop for a vehicle code violation on the afternoon of Thursday, February 15th. Sheriff’s deputies identified the occupants of the vehicle as Danae Chantel Bovee, 27, and William Brian Hamilton, 31 — both residents of Redding.

During the initial contact, K9 Deputy Ace reportedly signaled the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Because Bovee and Hamilton both had felony records, they were subject to search terms. Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered 16.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, 5.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, other unspecified evidence of narcotics sales, and around $2,000 in cash.

In light of these discoveries, the Sheriff’s Office contacted the Interagency Narcotics Task Force for assistance in the case.

Investigators soon learned that the two had been leasing a hotel room at the Hotel Garden Inn in Redding. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the room. Upon carrying out the search, authorities seized another 5.4 ounces of suspected fentanyl, 12.5 prescription narcotic pills, additional unspecified evidence of narcotics sales, and just shy of $28,000 in cash.

Investigators later served a second warrant at a residence associated with the pair, located on the 600 block of Terrace Drive. Here, authorities reportedly seized 15.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, a high-capacity handgun magazine, ammunition, and an unspecified amount of processed cannabis.

Both Bovee and Hamilton were booked at the Shasta County jail for the alleged possession and transportation of narcotics for the purpose of sales. Hamilton’s bail was set at $50,000, while Bovee was not eligible for bail.

The Sheriff’s Office said it has filed additional charges with the District Attorney’s Office regarding the cannabis and ammunition.
