Summary:
On February 16, 2024, at 1:05 P.M., detectives from the Porterville Police Department observed a previously reported stolen vehicle parked unoccupied at a residence in the sub-100 block of East Yates Avenue. Shortly later, Joshua Schwenn arrived in a separate vehicle and entered the previously reported stolen vehicle. Detectives attempted to contact Schwenn and he fled from them on foot; however, he was apprehended without further incident.

After his apprehension detectives discovered the vehicle Schwenn arrived in was just being reported stolen by its owner. During the search of Schwenn and the vehicles, detectives located burglary tools, methamphetamine, and live ammunition. Schwenn was determined to be a previously convicted felon and he was recently released from local custody after being placed on Post Release Community Supervision with Tulare County Probation for Vehicle Theft.

Schwenn was arrested for driving a vehicle without consent, possession of a stolen vehicle, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting arrest. Tulare County Probation was informed of the arrest and a Probation Violation Hold was issued. Schwenn was booked at the Tulare County South County Detention Facility and held without bail.

The vehicles were returned to the registered owners. The report was submitted to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office for review.
