Authorities in El Dorado Hills have made significant progress in an ongoing investigation into a series of thefts that rattled the local community earlier this month. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) Detectives launched an inquiry after multiple incidents of vehicle burglaries and a subsequent vehicle theft occurred in the area.
The investigation revealed that following the thefts, victims discovered unauthorized transactions on their credit cards at various retail establishments in Rancho Cordova. Through diligent investigative work, detectives identified a primary suspect in the case: 36-year-old Amber Cunningham of Sacramento.
Surveillance footage from several retail locations captured Cunningham engaging in identity theft by unlawfully utilizing the victims’ credit cards. As a result of the investigation’s findings, authorities issued an arrest warrant for Cunningham and obtained a search warrant for her residence.
On February 15, 2024, law enforcement officers executed the arrest and search warrants at Cunningham’s residence, leading to her apprehension. During the search, stolen items belonging to the victims were recovered, along with additional evidence linking Cunningham to the initial thefts and subsequent identity thefts.
Furthermore, investigators identified a second suspect in connection with the case. 36-year-old Johnathan Reelfs, also from Sacramento, was identified during the execution of the search warrant. Reelfs was found to be in custody in another jurisdiction at the time of the warrant’s service. EDSO Detectives have since made contact with Reelfs, and the investigation into his involvement in the incidents remains ongoing.
The diligent efforts of law enforcement agencies underscore their commitment to upholding public safety and addressing criminal activities within the community. The support and cooperation of residents play a crucial role in assisting authorities with their investigations.
Individuals with any information relevant to these cases are urged to reach out to Detective Buckman at buckmanj@edso.org. The EDSO encourages community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
