Former Trinity County Correctional Deputy Arrested for Alleged Possession of CSAM
“In August of 2023, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office received an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) report, regarding suspected Child Pornography being requested and/or transmitted from electronic devices within Trinity County. The initial report was vague and additional follow-up was required to identify the materials themselves as well as those responsible.
Numerous Search Warrants were written and issued to Electronic Service Providers. Once returns were provided, Christopher Kirby was identified as a Person of Interest. Kirby at the time was a Correctional Deputy for the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office.
A Search Warrant was served on Kirby’s residence, which yielded the discovery of a variety of computer components which were seized. On the date of the residential Search Warrant, Kirby was placed on Administrative Leave and shortly thereafter, was no longer employed with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office.
After additional Forensic Searches of the electronic devices had been completed, the final reports were submitted to the District Attorney’s Office, who on February 16, 2024, issued a warrant for Kirby’s arrest.
Kirby was arrested on the same date and transported to a correctional facility outside of Trinity County.
The investigation was conducted by the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
