Corona Weekly Crime Report

“Good morning, Corona Residents!

We want to keep you informed about recent activities of your police department. Here’s a summary of the incidents to which our officers responded from Monday, February 12th, 12:00 AM to Sunday, February 18th, 11:59 PM:

Calls for Service:
Our officers attended a total of 1,830 incidents, including 80 alarm calls, 26 area checks, 132 disturbance calls, 75 property checks, and 42 welfare checks.

Arrests:
We apprehended 52 individuals involved in various offenses during this period.

Incident Highlights:
February 15th, 12:42 PM: Our Vice/Narcotics/Intelligence team received multiple complaints of possible illegal gambling and marijuana sales at a local smoke shop. After validating the complaints, a search warrant was obtained for the business. VNI conducted a search and located three gambling machines, cash related to the machines, and several boxes of marijuana products. The employee on site was cited for Unlawful Sales of Marijuana and Illegal Gambling.

February 15th, 10:03 PM: An officer on patrol saw a fire in the 1200 block of W. 6th St. and a few minutes later saw another fire about a half of a block away. The Corona Fire Department was also dispatched to another fire in the area. CFD found a subject near some bushes starting yet another fire. Officers contacted the person who admitted to starting all four fires. Rudy Munoz, 48 years of Los Angeles, was arrested for four counts of Arson.

February 16th, 12:15 PM: Officers were dispatched to a domestic battery and as the first officer arrived, a subject and vehicle matching the suspect’s description were seen leaving at a high rate of speed. As officers got behind the vehicle, it accelerated, and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle collided with a parked vehicle at Fairbanks and Calhoun St. Three suspects exited the vehicle and ran in opposite directions. Shortly after, arriving officers located one subject, a short distance away, who was later identified as the domestic battery suspect. This subject was also found in possession of two loaded handguns. A perimeter was established, and various yards in the area were searched, however, the driver and front passenger were not located.

February 16th, 9:30 AM: The Family Services Unit has been investigating a couple for repeatedly housing numerous truant minors, their son’s friends, reported as runaways. On Tuesday, six minors (two reported runaways) were located at the house during school hours. Another runaway was also found at the house several days later during school hours. The couple was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of minors and released with citations after booking.
