“HOMICIDE ARREST
On February 23, 2024, at approximately 0116 hrs, The Santa Cruz Police Department (SCPD) received a report of a possible homicide that had just occurred on Seabright State Beach, 1300 E. Cliff Dr.
Upon arrival, SCPD Officers located the male suspect, Samuel Stone, near the beach waterline. Mr. Stone was taken into custody without incident. Immediately next to Mr. Stone was the body of the victim, who was unconscious. SCPD Officers administered lifesaving measures until relieved by SC Fire and AMR Paramedics. The victim was transported to Dominican Hospital, where she later died.
SCPD Investigators were called in to begin immediate follow-up. Investigators learned that Mr. Stone and the victim were in a dating relationship.
Mr. Stone was later booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on a charge of homicide.
