“It was a busy holiday weekend and we thought we’d share a few significant incidents. Officer Chan contacted three people in a parked vehicle with expired registration tags near Ocean Blvd. and RH Dana Place. Cannabis was observed in plain view on the rear passenger floorboard. One of the passengers admitted to the cannabis being there while driving down from the Los Angeles area. The driver then gave consent to search the vehicle. During the search, a loaded handgun was located inside a bag belonging to one of the passengers. A 25-year-old Los Angeles area resident was arrested for 25850(a) PC – carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street and 25400(a)(3) PC – carrying a concealed weapon.
Corporal Dang observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the 1300 block of First Street. The vehicle was parked adjacent to fresh graffiti and was not in a marked stall. Additionally, a DMV records check revealed that the vehicle registration was suspended for several months. Office Dang contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver had paint on his clothing and was in possession of paraphernalia commonly used for tagging. During a discussion with Officer Dang, the driver explained that he was recently arrested by another agency for firearms possession charges.
When questioned about the incident the driver accidentally revealed that he was currently in possession of additional firearms in his vehicle. Officer Dang located two illegally modified assault style rifles inside the car and one was loaded. He was also in possession of three high-capacity magazines, ammunition and firearms accessories. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of PC 30605(a) – Unlawful possession of an assault rifle, PC 25850(a) – Carry a loaded firearm in a public place, and PC 32310(c) – Possession of high-capacity magazines.
He was booked into San Diego Central Jail.”
