Suspicious Person Report Leads to Arrest of a Man with a Stolen Pistol

FREMONT — Police arrested a young man for possession of a stolen pistol and carrying a concealed dagger. The 19-year-old resident of Fremont, Juan Contreras-Hernandez was arrested on February 23.
Officers were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m., after a man was reported for peering into the windows of parked cars. He was seen acting suspiciously like this on Joseph Street.
A few blocks away, about 10 minutes later, police saw a man, matching the description of the suspicious person. He was Contreras-Hernandez. As officers approached to question him, he appeared to hide an object between two parked cars.
First, officers found a concealed dagger hidden on Contreras-Hernandez’s person. Next, officers searched near the parked cars, where Contreras-Hernandez evidently tried to hide the firearm.
Shortly afterwards, officers found a Glock pistol equipped with an extended magazine. It contained 23 rounds of ammunition. Upon further investigation, officers learned that this pistol had been reported stolen.
Police placed Contreras-Hernandez under arrest. He was booked in county jail for carrying a loaded firearm in public PC 21310. Plus, he was booked for receiving stolen property (the pistol) PC 496(A). In addition, he was also booked for possession of a concealed dirk or dagger.
Fremont police said in a prepared statement. “We want to thank the community for their assistance in reporting suspicious activity.”
