“On Wednesday a Deputy with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) uncovered over 4 kilos of fentanyl during a routine traffic stop.

Around 8:30 am, February 28th, an SCSO Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla for failing to have a front license plate. During a consent search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered a black suitcase containing clothes and 4 cellophane-wrapped packages of what appeared to be fentanyl in the trunk. The driver verified that the suitcase belonged to him, and then explained that he had been paid $4,000 to transport the narcotics by “someone from Mexico.” He also insisted that his two travel companions were not aware of the narcotics, and that he was the only one involved.

The suspected narcotic substance was later verified to be fentanyl, and weighed approximately 4286 grams. According to the Department of Justice, just one kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people and has a street value of approximately $55,600-64,000. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for the possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sale and transported to the Siskiyou County jail.

This drug seizure comes just two weeks after another traffic stop by a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s deputy led to the discovery of 5 pounds of heroin and 8 pounds of cocaine, which currently has a street value of $40,000-90,000 and $62,000-68,000 respectively.”
