On March 13, 2024, at approximately 1:00 PM, an officer with the Nevada City Police Department (NCPD), identified as Officer Kendrick, observed an individual known to him to have a felony warrant seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in the 10,000 block of Willow Valley Rd. Officer Kendrick approached the vehicle and initiated contact with both the passenger, identified as Sarah Getman, 34 years old, and the driver, later identified as Cory Goodrich-Fordyce, also 34 years old.
Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, permissible under the terms of the occupant’s Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS) status, Officer Kendrick discovered a short-barreled AR-style rifle inside the vehicle. The rifle, equipped with an enhanced optic and a loaded magazine, was found to be in violation of firearm regulations due to its barrel length, which fell below the legal requirement of 16 inches. Additionally, the weapon lacked a serial number, further exacerbating its illegality.
In addition to the firearm, Officer Kendrick also found a set of lockpicks, methamphetamine, and methamphetamine paraphernalia in the possession of Cory Goodrich-Fordyce. All items were subsequently seized by law enforcement.
Both Sarah Getman and Cory Goodrich-Fordyce were taken into custody and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Goodrich-Fordyce faces charges related to possession of an illegal firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of lockpicks. Meanwhile, Getman’s involvement in the incident was not specified.
