SAUSALITO — A mechanic with prior convictions in Alameda County has been arrested in connection with a vehicle burglary in Sausalito. Central Marin Police Authority apprehended the suspect and brought him to the Sausalito Police Department headquarters, where he was arrested subsequently.
Sausalito PD responded to a reported vehicle break-in on Napa Street on March 14 shortly before 4 a.m. Police pursued the suspect through the streets of Sausalito and onto Highway 101. The driver made a U- turn and began driving southbound against freeway traffic. Police aborted the chase in the interest of public safety.
Soon thereafter, the driver crashed on the freeway in Larkspur near Lucky Drive and fled from the vehicle. Central Marin officers found the man in nearby bay marshland: Lance P. Barahona, 30, of Oakland. Barahona was detained and later turned over to Sausalito police for questioning.
Barahona was booked into Marin County Jail on March 14 at 12:56 p.m. The suspect was booked for burglary, conspiracy to commit crime, possession of drug paraphernalia, and evading police with disregard for safety.
Barahona also faces open charges for felon in possession of a firearm and owning an unregistered firearm without a serial number. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Turns out, Barahona is on probation in Alameda County for weapons-related convictions. Barahona has other convictions for possession of a controlled substance and five DUIs.
