Two individuals were recently arrested after a deputy reportedly discovered a loaded rifle in their vehicle during an enforcement stop.

According to a press release by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when a deputy attempted an enforcement stop on a vehicle with expired registration in the area of Waterloo Road and Sunset Avenue on February 29.

The vehicle reportedly continued westbound on Waterloo, turned south onto Filbert, and parked at a residence. The deputy detained the driver, who had a prior felony conviction, and passenger as they exited the vehicle.

As the two were being detained, deputies reportedly noticed an AR-15 style rifle near the passenger’s feet, which was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber. Deputies also searched the vehicle and discovered an additional loaded rifle magazine containing 15 rounds.

The California Highway Patrol also responded to the scene to conduct a DUI evaluation on the driver, which came back negative.

Both individuals were ultimately arrested and booked.
