FREMONT — A man in custody facing charges for murder is ineligible for release on bond, pending a plea hearing on April 2. The 25-year-old Fremont resident Sylvester Carver is behind bars at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.
Fremont PD placed Carver under arrest on March 13 in Richmond, following an extensive search for him. Fremont police said in a prepared statement. “Carver was positively identified coming out of a known associate’s residence.”
Carver allegedly committed a fatal shooting on March 5. It happened in the vicinity of Stevenson Boulevard and Albrae Street in Fremont. One vehicle fled from the scene. A driver was found sitting inside another vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim died of his injuries at a hospital on March 9.
The homicide investigation led Fremont detectives to a residence on the 5000 block of Harnett Avenue in Richmond. Carver and other associates were contacted in a vehicle, as they were leaving the residence. Carver was taken into custody without further incident.
Multiple charges filed on March 14 against Carver include murder and shooting at an occupied motor vehicle. However, the homicide investigation remains active. Anyone with information can contact Fremont PD detective Michael Gebhardt at 510-790-6900 or email mgebhardt@fremont.gov.
Meanwhile, Carver is also a defendant in a separate unrelated case involving seven firearms-related charges. He has been arrested three times since 2020 for carrying a concealed firearm.
