“On Feb. 11, 2024, two unknown male subjects entered Walmart and placed a card skimmer on one of the self-check-out machines. Deputy Manion was dispatched and handled the initial investigation. Deputy Manion was able to obtain video surveillance that depicted the suspects and vehicle descriptions. Using Flock Safety ALPR, Deputy Manion was also able to identify the suspect vehicle.
Detective Aguirre was assigned to the investigation and proactively attempted to locate other businesses where a card skimmer may have been placed. His work paid off when he located a skimming device at the Dollar General on McGowan Pkwy.
Detective Aguirre contacted numerous agencies in an attempt to identify the suspects in this case. Detective Aguirre obtained information that the suspects were arrested in January of 2024 in Riverside County for fraud-related crimes and each of them had active warrants for burglary out of Riverside County. The vehicle, registered in Southern California, was located by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at a residence in Sacramento.
After learning the suspect’s identities and the location of the suspect vehicle, Detective Aguirre authored arrest warrants for both suspects, as well as a search warrant into the residence. On February 28, 2024, with the assistance of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Yuba County Sheriff’s Office detectives served the search warrant, resulting in the arrest of both suspects in the card skimming crimes. A search of the residence revealed significant evidence of criminal activity.
Furthermore, it was learned that one of the suspects is a fugitive from his native country, Romania, and was arrested in Mexico in 2015 for weapons and drug charges. Upon booking into the jail, Detective Aguirre took extra legal steps to ensure the suspects remained in custody.
The work of Deputy Manion and Detective Aguirre resulted in the successful arrest of two suspects who prey on law-abiding citizens. Furthermore, it is apparent to us now that at least one of the suspects is a dangerous individual with a long history of criminal behavior.”
