NOVATO — A woman arrested twice in March for possession of drug paraphernalia is now in custody on suspicion of arson. The suspect approached a home on Alameda de la Loma and allegedly ignited a fire on a porch. The victims do not know the suspect, nor were they at home when the fire happened. In a
prepared statement Novato police said. “The fire caused significant damages to both the interior and exterior of the home. Thankfully, no one was injured.”
Novato firefighters and police responded to the residence on March 24. A witness had reported seeing a woman starting the fire and leaving the area. Officers searched the vicinity and found a woman matching the description of the suspect.
Crime scene investigators, detectives, and a fire mitigation ranger collaborated in an investigation conducted by the Novato Fire Protection District. Police gathered witness statements and reviewed recorded surveillance video.
Amy E. Lewis, a 41-year-old resident of Novato, was detained. Lewis was placed under arrest at 5:22 p.m., and she was booked into Marin County Jail. She remains in custody in lieu of $101,000 bond.
Lewis faces charges for arson of an inhabited structure/property. She was also arrested for an outstanding bench warrant from Santa Rosa. Evidently, she failed to appear as promised pertaining to an arrest last year for drug paraphernalia. In addition, Lewis was arrested on March 6 and March 13 for possession of drug paraphernalia.
