BRENTWOOD — Four firearms and fentanyl were recovered on March 26 by the Brentwood Police Department SWAT team. The raid was instigated by an arrest in February of a man found in possession of narcotics for sale. The SWAT team briefly detained two Brentwood residents, but no additional arrests were made.
However, James Coleman Jr., 48, of Oakland, is the man who on February 25 was arrested. Coleman was locked up during a traffic stop. The Brentwood officer discovered Coleman was in possession of a large quantity of narcotics for sale, including suspected fentanyl.
Coleman got arrested for possession and transportation of a controlled substance for sale. He was also arrested for an outstanding warrant from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, but his recent arrest may be just the tip of the iceberg.
In a prepared statement Brentwood police said. “Information was obtained leading the officer to believe Coleman was in possession of additional narcotics, and firearms.” Notwithstanding, Coleman is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing any firearms.
Authorities expanded the investigation to include the SWAT team. A search warrant was executed at a residence on the 100 block of Applewood Common in Brentwood. The police statement said there was no threat to public safety. “This investigation is ongoing and will later be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for review.”
