Two Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in San Benito County
“On March 22nd, 2024, at approximately 2 AM, two sports cars, a Corvette & a Camero, were reported stolen from separate locations in Hollister. Astute Sheriff Deputies located the stolen vehicles, which were driven by a 17-year-old male & an 18-year-old female, both from Salinas. When Deputies tried to stop the drivers, they took off at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude law enforcement.
The pursuit led to a dramatic climax as the vehicles reached a dead end on Lone Tree Road, where deputies closed in on the Camaro. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the male suspect rammed his car against patrol vehicles, resulting in a close call for one of our Deputies & his K9 partner. In an act of bravery, the Deputy swiftly moved to protect his K9 partner, sustaining minor injuries in the process.
Meanwhile, the female suspect, driving the Corvette, attempted to escape in a separate direction & was parked further down on Lone Tree Road. The male suspect drove at speeds up to 140mph & was able to pick the female up before law enforcement caught up with him. Spike strips were deployed on two occasions but were unsuccessful. The male driver turned off his lights to evade law enforcement. However, they crashed into a fence & a phone pole on Highway 156 at Rocks Road.
The male was uninjured & taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into Juvenile Hall on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a peace officer, evading a peace officer, & conspiracy, amongst other charges.
The female sustained a leg injury & was transported to an area hospital. She is facing charges of assault on a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, & conspiracy.
The Deputy was treated at an area hospital & released a short time later. The K9 was uninjured.
Both vehicles were returned to their owners.”
