Palm Springs Police Arrest Theft Suspect After Altercation Leaves Employee Injured

“The Palm Springs Police Department responded to reports of a confrontation at a business on the 300 block of S Palm Canyon Dr. on Tuesday, April 9th, at 2:17 PM. Witnesses at the scene reported an altercation involving a male suspect, who was trying to get away with concealed merchandise from the premises.
During the incident, the suspect was confronted by three employees. A physical struggle ensued, resulting in one employee being pushed to the ground, another being headbutted and suffering a laceration from a knife, wielded by the suspect. The injured employee was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Andrew Augustin Mason, a resident of Palm Springs. Mason has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, in connection with the incident. Additionally, Mason was the subject of one felony warrant and two misdemeanor warrants, at the time of his arrest.
