Two individuals from Los Angeles were arrested in Shasta County after authorities allegedly found narcotics in their vehicle during an enforcement stop.
Around 2 AM on Saturday, April 13, deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation traveling southbound on Interstate 5, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Jose Guadalupe Mendoza-Cardenas of Los Angeles, was accompanied by passenger Alvaro Martinez, also 24.
K-9 Deputy Duke brought in and alerted to the odor of narcotics. Authorities searched the vehicle and reportedly found just over 5 pounds of suspected cocaine, and just over $191,000 in US currency, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force assumed the investigation.
Mendoza-Cardenas and Martinez were arrested for the alleged transportation and possession of narcotics for the purpose of sales. At present, they remain in custody at the Shasta County jail.
