“On Thursday, April 11, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Folsom Police dispatchers received a call regarding a fight in progress at Folsom City Park near the Library gazebo. Based on statements provided by witnesses, the parties involved in the incident, and video surveillance, it was determined that the victim was the subject of an unprovoked attack by two of the involved parties.
At the time of the attack, the victim was sitting alone in Folsom City Park, painting near the gazebo. The suspected assailants held the victim on the ground while they punched and kicked the victim more than 50 times. During the attack, the suspects used homophobic slurs towards the victim and prevented the victim’s escape while they continued their attack.
The victim eventually managed to escape their attackers and fled to their residence. Folsom Police officers contacted the victim and observed several visible injuries that had been sustained during the incident.
Zakari Newton-Allen (22, transient of Folsom) and Ashley Archer (35, transient of Folsom) were contacted in the area by officers and identified as the suspects. They were both arrested and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for felony battery, assault charges, and a hate crime.”
