Rancho Cordova PD Makes Homicide Arrest After Incident at Gas Station on Zinfandel Drive

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, just after 10:15 PM, officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department and deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a gas station parking lot situated on the 2800 block of Zinfandel Drive following reports of a disturbance in the area. Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive adult male lying on the ground. Immediate first-aid measures were initiated by the officers until the arrival of personnel from the Fire Department.
Concurrently, deputies were able to locate a suspect in close proximity to the scene, matching the description provided by witnesses. The suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Anthony Cervantes, was detained without incident.
Regrettably, despite the efforts of responders, the victim was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter at the scene. In response to the incident, Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators promptly arrived at the scene to initiate their investigation. Witness interviews were conducted, and evidence was gathered. Following the completion of their investigation, detectives formally arrested Cervantes on charges of murder.
The identity of the victim will be disclosed by the Coroner’s Office pending family notification procedures.
Cervantes was subsequently transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is presently held without eligibility for bail. His scheduled court appearance is slated for April 17, 2024.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with pertinent information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
