PIEDMONT — An officer making a security check near Beach Elementary School arrested a convicted sex offender found in possession of methamphetamine. Michael S. Booker, 39, a writer from Alameda, remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
Booker was walking near the school on Lake Avenue early April 18. The officer who detained Booker arrested him at 1:39 a.m. A bag of white powder that he was carrying tested positive as methamphetamine.
The officer arrested him for possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance. An identification check revealed Booker had outstanding warrants pertaining to indecent exposure and failure to register as a sex offender. He was arrested for those offenses as well.
Booker is arrested frequently for indecent exposure, illicit drug possession, and violent crimes. In March he was arrested for assault, drugs, robbery, and vandalism. He has prior convictions for indecent exposure in 2023 and second-degree robbery in 2022.
Booker was arrested 14 times during 2023. He was arrested in November for assault, controlled substance possession, robbery, and other offenses. He was arrested in October for assault, indecent exposure, robbery, among other offenses. Booker was arrested twice for indecent exposure in September. His other arrests during 2023 involved assaults, burglaries, controlled substances, indecent exposure, and robberies.
He was arrested twice in 2022 for assault, controlled substances, and robbery. He also has prior arrests in 2014 and 2015 for burglary, robbery, and possession of a controlled substance in prison.
