If 40-year-old Port Hueneme resident Sean Briseno was competing for an early high ranking in this year’s “Darwin Awards” (recognizing the most stupid behavior each calendar year), he may very well have placed himself in the leadership position with his April 19th firearms violation arrest.

According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Beau Rodriguez, as a convicted felon on parole with search terms, Briseno was the subject of an investigation earlier in the month of April, 2024 pursuant to “information” indicating he may have been in possession of a firearm and ammunition. As a person “prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition, his name quickly showed up on a search warrant targeting his person, vehicle, and residence.

When Briseno showed up at the Ventura County Superior Court on the afternoon of April 19th for an appearance on an unrelated pending criminal matter, VCSD West County Special Enforcement Unit deputies made contact with him in the courthouse parking lot and served him with the search warrant. A quick inspection of Briseno’s  vehicle led to the discovery of “a loaded 40 caliber Glock semi-automatic ‘ghost gun’. He was taken into custody at the scene and transported across the parking lot to the Ventura County Jail.

As he was being processed into jail custody, deputies served the search warrants on Briseno’s residence where they found “additional firearms, various types of ammunition, and suspected methamphetamine.” Briseno was then charged with multiple counts of Felon with a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance with a Firearm, Carrying a  Loaded Firearm, and Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition. He remains in custody with his bail set at $70,000.
