HAYWARD — A fugitive mother wanted for allegedly torturing her daughter decades ago is behind bars at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. Hayward police recently apprehended Greisy C. Valencia, 70, of Whittier, while she was in Alameda County.

One of Valencia’s three children, a daughter (then) 11 years old was found in September 2002 wandering the streets of Manteca. The girl suffered from a brutal beating and extensive burns on her hands.

The girl was unable to remember her address or phone number. Investigators learned that she had been bitten, scratched, kicked, and had hair pulled from her scalp. Investigators determined the victim was abused regularly by her mother. The girl’s older brothers also suffered abuse, but not as severe.

Seven years of abuse began allegedly when the girl was four years old. Doctors observed scars on her hands, face and back from prior severe injuries. The girl’s injuries were evidently caused by open fire, lit cigarettes, and a hot iron.

Valencia evaded police since 2002, after Child Protective Services took custody of her children. She stopped showing up at work, and her whereabouts became unknown until recently.

New information prompted the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office to issue a warrant for Valencia. She was placed under arrest April 11 at 1:30 p.m. Valencia was booked for torture and causing great bodily injury. A judge denied bail for release of Valencia, who is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on May 8.
