Vehicle Pursuit Suspect Reportedly in Critical Condition from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

“On May 3, 2024, as previously reported, a 40-year-old male out of Rohnert Park lead police on a chase through three bay area counties before an hours-long standoff that closed Interstate 80 in the Solano County area. Earlier that day, a woman had called law enforcement to report being shot at on Highway 101 outside Santa Rosa. Fortunately, she was not injured. A couple of hours later, officers were able to locate the vehicle involved in the shooting in the Rohnert Park area.

The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, refused to comply with commands of the responding officers. Instead, the driver fled the scene and led the police on a chase for over 80 miles traversing three counties eventually ending on Interstate 80 in Fairfield.

For over two hours, officers from the California Highway Patrol, Fairfield Police Department, and Solano County Sheriff’s Office attempted to communicate with the driver by giving clear commands and utilizing different de-escalation techniques. The driver refused to comply with any and all attempts made by law enforcement. The driver is currently in critical condition having suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Solano County Major Crimes Task force responded to the scene to conduct an independent investigation into the incident pursuant to the Countywide Officer Involved Fatal Incident Protocol. Due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, no other details will be released at this time.”
