Authorities in Encinitas provided an update on a homicide case following an incident on May 11, 2024. Deputies responded to a stabbing in the 300 block of Sprucewood Drive, discovering an adult male with a stab wound to his abdomen. Despite receiving medical aid and transportation to the hospital, the victim, identified as 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez, succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy conducted on May 13, 2024, confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the abdomen, ruling it a homicide. Further investigation revealed that Miguel’s 17-year-old brother was involved in the altercation, during which he fatally stabbed Miguel in the front yard of their residence. The juvenile was subsequently arrested for homicide and placed in custody at Juvenile Hall.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the crime are still under investigation. Authorities have reassured the community that there are no outstanding suspects, and there’s no apparent danger to the public.
