Three Arrested in Connection with Alleged Roofing Scam Targeting Elderly Victims in San Mateo County

The San Mateo Police Department has announced the arrests of three individuals allegedly involved in an ongoing roofing scam targeting elderly victims. The investigation initially began in November of 2023.
According to a press release, San Mateo Police investigators discovered that a group of individuals, described as white males with “Irish accents,” was allegedly involved in financial abuse and price gouging. The suspects, under the guise of a fake construction company known as “Statewide Roofing and Siding,” allegedly used a fraudulent contractor’s license and overcharged victims for incomplete and unnecessary construction work.
Coordination with other police departments throughout San Mateo County reportedly uncovered additional victims of similar roofing scams.
On May 7, the San Mateo Police Department received another report from a victim who suspected he was being scammed by the roofing company hired to repair his mother’s house. After a “free” roof inspection, minor repairs were deemed necessary, but additional costs were continually added, culminating in the suggestion that the entire roof needed replacement.
Investigators discovered the suspects were allegedly using fake names and another fake company name, “Teco Roofing and Masonry,” to scam victims.
On May 8, officers located three individuals allegedly involved in the roofing scam. All three — identified as Charlie Anderson, 22; David Anderson, 39; and Darren Temple, 40 — were arrested on suspicion of theft from an elder or dependent adult, obtaining money by false pretense, fraudulent use of a contractor’s license, and conspiracy.
All three were booked at San Mateo County jail.
The San Mateo Police Department continues to investigate these crimes and seeks additional victims who had roofing construction completed by “Statewide Roofing and Siding” or “Teco Roofing and Masonry.”
