BRENTWOOD — A man convicted for identity theft three years ago was arrested again for identity theft and related crimes. Adam A. Lew, 34 of Walnut Creek, remains jailed in lieu of $60,000 bond at the West Detention Facility.
A bank manager reported Lew for cashing a $2,000 check, later determined to be a The bank provided a photo of Lew to Brentwood police on May 20. Officers responded later the same day to a request for a welfare check of a man sitting inside a car.
Responding officers on the lookout for Lew immediately recognized him as the suspect associated with the fraudulent check. Police found in Lew’s possession fraudulent checks, along with debit and credit cards not belonging to him. They also found in his possession M-80 fireworks and shaved keys typically used for stealing vehicles.
Police placed Lew under arrest at 7:34 p.m., where he was parked on the 4500 block of Balfour Road. Lew was booked for identity theft, passing a fraudulent check, and possession of stolen debit and credit cards. He was also booked for possession of a destructive device.
Lew was convicted in 2021 for identity theft and forgery, along with second-degree burglary. Lew was convicted in 2014 of second-degree burglary and unlawfully driving or taking a vehicle. At the same time, he was also convicted of possession of burglary tools and vandalism. Lew was twice convicted in 2013, once for receiving stolen property and a second time for petty theft.
He was convicted for possession of a deadly weapon in 2011.
