Arrest Made in Diesel Fuel Theft Investigation

“On May 21, 2024, at 7:13 a.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Cabazon Station, assigned to the Cabazon Station’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU), responded to a parking lot in the 49000 block of Seminole Drive, Cabazon, regarding a diesel fuel theft investigation. Deputies learned the suspect stole 15,000 gallons of fuel valued at $75,000.00. CSU located video surveillance and identified the vehicles used to commit the theft. CSU also discovered that the same vehicles were used to steal diesel fuel at other locations, including Cabazon, Calimesa, and Moreno Valley. During the investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Steven Bailey, a 37-year-old resident of Norwalk.

On May 21, 2024, Bailey was arrested at his residence in the city of Perris. A search warrant was served for Bailey’s vehicles and residence. During the service of the search warrant, deputies collected evidence of the theft and additional items, including an unregistered firearm. Bailey was transported and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for conspiracy, a felon in possession of a firearm, and receiving stolen property. This investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available.
