“On Friday, May 17, 2024, a woman called the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office to report that she just found out her teenage daughter had been sexually abused when the girl was four years old. The suspect was a man close to the family. Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau Detectives responded and interviewed both the mother and the daughter. Detectives then contacted and interviewed the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Jason Prater. Prater made some admissions and confirmed significant parts of the girl’s statement.

Following the interview, Prater was arrested for two counts of PC 288.7(b) (Oral Sex Act with a Child age 10 or Under) and one count of PC 288(a) (Lewd or Lascivious Act with a Child Under age 14). Prater remains in custody with a $2.1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 21.

Prater was employed as an Education Specialist at the Roseville campus of the John Adams Academy and as a Special Education Teacher at Options for Youth Charter School in Sacramento. Detectives also learned that Prater was a martial arts instructor for children in the Roseville area, but were not able to determine if he was affiliated with a particular studio.

Due to Prater’s involvement in education and working with children, Detectives are seeking assistance from the public to help identify additional potential victims. The Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau can be reached at (916) 874-5191 and childabuse@sacsheriff.com.”
