“Just before 2 AM on Sunday, May 26, 2024, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident inside an apartment on the 5900 block of Sutter Avenue in Carmichael, stating that he shot someone who had entered his apartment and assaulted him.
Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies responded to the scene and discovered an adult male deceased inside of the apartment. The caller and his girlfriend were inside the residence when the incident occurred and remained on scene when Deputies arrived.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, began their investigation, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence. Detectives learned the male subject who was shot was in a previous dating relationship with the female who lived at the apartment.
Just before the incident, he knocked on the door loudly for approximately 20 minutes when the female finally opened the door. The male subject forced his way into the apartment, confronted the new boyfriend (the caller), and physically assaulted him. During the physical altercation, the caller shot the male subject one time and then called 911.
Detectives submitted their findings to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, where it was determined that no criminal charges would be filed. The firearm used in this incident was legally owned and registered by the caller.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased in accordance with their protocols.”
