CONCORD — Police arrested a man who allegedly forced his way into a home, fired gunshots and started a small fire. Christian A. Stuart, 47, of Concord, remains in custody at the West County Detention Facility in lieu of $150,000 bond. Fortunately, the victims, a mother and her three young children escaped without injury.

The intruder entered a residence on Rosebrook Court, where he pointed a handgun at the woman and one of her children. The woman recognized the man having seen him in her neighborhood. She managed to distract him and ran outside with her children, where responding officers escorted them to safety.

This harrowing incident occurred on May 27 at approximately 6 p.m. Responding officers surrounded the residence and deployed an aerial drone to monitor the suspect. Soon thereafter, officers heard gunshots fired coming from inside the residence.

More than two hours passed before Stuart finally exited from the home. Officers arrested Stuart at 8:22 p.m., without further incident.

Concord police said in a prepared statement. “Bullet impacts were located inside the residence as well as evidence of a small fire. Stuart told officers he entered the victim’s home because he was being followed by armed persons.”

Officers investigated Stuart’s version of events, but they found no evidence to support his story. Stuart was booked subsequently for the following charges –

  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Negligent discharge of a firearm
  • Carrying a loaded unregistered firearm
  • Child Cruelty
  • Arson
