“On Wednesday night, a homeless, convicted felon victimized an elderly female staying at a local motel in El Cajon. The incident occurred near Oakdale and Second Street.

The suspect knocked on the woman’s motel room door. When she opened the door, the stranger forcedly entered her motel room. He grabbed the woman’s arm and pushed her down to the ground, causing significant but non-life-threatening injuries. Before leaving, he destroyed the room and the television.

The suspect ran from the motel to a fast-food restaurant. The suspect jumped through the drive-through window into the restaurant. He stole a knife from the kitchen and armed himself with it before fleeing again to a grocery store nearby. Witnesses told police the man threatened another person with the knife while he was inside the store.

Officers were unable to locate that victim. When the police arrived, they located the man outside, hiding in bushes. The man was arrested and determined by the officers to be under the influence of drugs. The suspect is facing charges of elder abuse, burglary, vandalism, and drug intoxication.

The officers identified the suspect as 42-year-old Tony Sims. Sims has had multiple prior arrests for violence and drugs and is on active parole for robbery. Police last arrested Sims earlier in March, weeks ago.

Anyone with additional information about this incident should contact the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311 or Crime Stoppers at www.sdcrimestoppers.org if you want to remain anonymous.”
