Two Arrested in Connection with Alleged Robbery and Shooting in Claremont
“On May 17, 2024, at about 5:11 PM, Claremont Police Officers responded to the Super King Market located at 436 Auto Center Drive regarding a robbery and shooting that occurred. The reporting party advised three adult victims had sustained gunshot wounds during a robbery. Officers and the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on the scene and treated the victims. The victims were later transported to a local hospital in stable condition. CPD Officers and Detectives identified the suspect through witness statements and video surveillance of the shooting.
During the search for the suspect,CPD Officers located evidence including the suspect’s clothing and a handgun, which were believed to be used during the crime. These items had been hidden by the suspect under a vehicle at a nearby business. An airship from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist with the search for the suspect. The suspect was located walking in the 100 block of Meredith Ave. and taken into custody without incident. Witnesses positively identified the suspect in the shooting. The suspect was transported to the Claremont Police Department Jail, where he was booked and later transported to the Inmate Reception Center (IRC) in Los Angeles. He is being held for court in lieu of a $2,000,000 bail.
During the ongoing investigation, a female suspect who was an accomplice to the robbery was identified. She was arrested and booked at the CPD Jail, where she is currently being housed. She is being held for court in lieu of a $125,000 bail. The only two suspects related to the robbery and shooting were arrested, and there are no outstanding suspects.
Arrested: Michael Abeyta – 27 years old, Pomona resident, was charged with the following:
-Attempted Murder -Assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) – Felon in Possession of Firearm -Criminal Threats -Robbery
Arrested: Amanda Soto – 37 years old, Pomona resident, was charged with the following: -Robbery -An active warrant”
